It does differ in any state, but the point is there are certain standards that you follow. It sounds hard, tiring, or complicated, but there's an easy way to get it done.
Go with a professional sign maker to make the sign for you. They know the regulations stipulated by the USDOT. The only thing you have to worry would be drawing out your design, if it's a custom sign, and if the end product does meet your expectations.
